CandleBrain is committed to making candlebrain.com usable by everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, or other assistive technology. This page explains what we’ve done, what standard we’re working toward, and how to reach us if something isn’t working for you.
Our Standard
We’re working toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the technical standard most commonly referenced for web accessibility, including by the U.S. Department of Justice under the ADA. We’re not going to claim we’re “fully compliant” here: accessibility is an ongoing process, not a one-time checkbox, and a site with as many custom calculators and directories as this one will always have room to keep improving. What we can say honestly is that we’ve done a real, code-level pass against WCAG 2.1 AA, described below, and we keep working at it.
What We’ve Done
As of the date above, we’ve reviewed and fixed accessibility issues across the site’s calculators, directories, and navigation, including:
- Color contrast — checked and corrected text/background color combinations that fell short of the 4.5:1 (normal text) or 3:1 (large text) minimums.
- Labels on form controls — every input, dropdown, and search box has a real accessible name a screen reader can announce, not just placeholder text that disappears once you start typing.
- Heading structure — pages follow a logical heading order (no jumping from a page title straight to a sub-sub-heading), so screen reader users can navigate by heading.
- Keyboard and focus — interactive widgets (tabs, accordions, toggle groups, the pricing calculator’s help modal) work with a keyboard alone, announce their state (selected, expanded, pressed) to assistive technology, and keep focus visible and in a sensible place — including trapping focus inside modal dialogs while they’re open, and returning it when you close one.
- Skip navigation — keyboard users can jump past the header straight to the main content.
Known Limitations
A few things are outside our direct control or still on our list:
- The Candle News section pulls in headlines from third-party news outlets via RSS — we can’t control the accessibility of the linked articles themselves once you leave our site.
- This is an ongoing effort. If a new feature ships with an accessibility gap we haven’t caught yet, the fastest way to get it fixed is to tell us (see below).
